MI-Tutor: March Infotech's Learning Management System

MI-Tutor is a Web-based Learning Management System ( LMS ) designed with accessibility and adaptability in mind. Administrator can update MI-Tutor and develop Courses.

Educators can quickly assemble, package, and redistribute Web-based instructional content and conduct their courses online. Students learn in an adaptive learning environment.

Modules

There are 22 modules e.g. Announcement, Assignment, Blogs, FAQ, Tracking, Chat, Content, Email, Directory, File Storage, Forums, Links, Polls, Reading List, SCORM Packages, Statistics, Student Tools, Syndicate Feeds, Test Surveys, Web Search.

Enrollment:

A list of enrolled/ Un-enrolled/ pending Enrollment students is available here. Admin can set privileges for them.

Courses

A list of all courses with their instructor's name and access type are provided here. Admin can View/Edit/Delete them and he can create backups for them too. He can also create forums here.

System Performence

Admin can set various preferences for the system. He can set Site name, Home URL, can choose default language, and can set Contact email, Max. File Size, Error Logs etc.

 

Theme

Themes are used for changing the look and feel. Three types of themes are provided here.

Users:

A list of all user with their account types are given here. Admin can create new accounts and can edit their profile.

Chat:

An active transcript will record all of the chat messages as they are posted. There can be only one active transcript at a time.

The functionality for Browse / Create / Edit a course has been provided.

Links:

Links can be added to allowing members to visit course related information elsewhere on the Web.

Profile:

This section allows a user to change elements of his/her personal profile. The login name cannot be altered but password, email address, and other personal information may be edited.

 

 

Forum:

Regular course-specific as well as shared cross-course forums can be created. A shared forum is available to all courses specified to use it, allowing users from different courses to communicate with each other in one forum. Only administrators can create shared forums, though instructors or privileged users in any of the courses sharing a forum can manage its messages.

Tests and surveys:

The instructor, and assistants with test privileges, can create tests and surveys to be administered to enrolled students. There are a variety of options for defining tests like setting the release date, and using randomized questions or group-specific tests.

File Storage:

Students and instructors can access a personal file management tool using the File Storage area.

Scorm Packages:

Allows instructors to include Sharable Content Objects (SCOs) as part of their courses. SCOs are parts of a complete learning unit.

 

Assignments:

Students can submit assignments to these workspaces, and instructors can manage submissions.

Features for Students:

Assignments:

It works alongside the File Storage area by letting instructors create virtual assignment drop-boxes within it. A student can submit files to the assignment workspace, and the instructor can view and download the submissions through the assignment manager or the file storage area directly.

Groups:

The group area allows an instructor or assistant with Group privileges to create and manage groups of enrolled students within various projects. This may be useful for assigning group-specific tests or assignments, online discussions case studies, brainstorming, collaborative projects, and peer editing or responses, and so on.

Tile Repository Search:

External content packages can be downloaded from the TILE repository by entering a search term and using the Search button.

Contents:

Using this feature, content can be created, its location, keywords, and date properties set, and glossary terms defined. It can also be previewed and have its accessibility checked.

My Tracker:

A tracker for number of page visits and duration of visit is maintained.

 

 

Enrollment:

The Enrollment list for a particular course determines which of your students have access to the course content and course management tools. Instructors can create, import and export student lists.

Glossary:

The Glossary lists all course terms, their definitions and related terms.

Polls:

For gathering opinions. Instructors and students with poll privileges can post a question with up to seven choices for answers.

Export Content

The Export Content feature creates a "Content Package" that can be downloaded and viewed offline in the viewer included with each package.

Back-up Facility:

MI-Tutor offers the facility to create backups of your course and restore the contents of those backups at any time. Useful for duplicating a course or saving entire course content for safe keeping in the case of accidental loss.

Tile Repository Search:

External content packages can be downloaded from the TILE repository by entering a search term and using the Search button.

Announcements:

Announcements added through the Manage section will appear on the course Home page, sorted by date in descending order .

Syndicate Feeds:

System Administrators are able to add syndicated news feeds to the system, making them available to instructors to use in their courses

Search:

A facility for course members, so that they can use Google to search the web from within a course.

Inbox:

The Inbox is used for privately messaging other users. Inbox messages appear in a table, with new messages flagged.

 

FAQs:

If an instructor would like to compile a list of frequently asked questions (and answers) for course members, they may do so by going to the FAQ section of the Manage area.
